Opinion: the electric scooter boom needs better public charging, not more models

Cities need 500 fast-charging points before they need another scooter launch.

Five new electric scooters launched this quarter. Two new public charging stations opened.

Until the ratio changes, scooter buyers without parking will stay on petrol.

Most of the 2.1 lakh electric scooters sold last year went to homes with off-street parking. Apartment dwellers without a socket stuck with petrol.

The fix is dull: shared chargers in housing societies, and a policy that lets residents install them without a fight.

This is a demo story: every name, place, organisation and figure in it is fictional.
